One of my favourites is “Later, as he sat on his balcony eating the dog, Dr Robert Laing reflected on the unusual events that had taken place within this huge apartment building during the previous three months” Which is one of the only details to have stayed with me from High Rise by J G Ballard (admittedly, I had to look up the exact quote.) A cracking first line!

Thanks for the info, PRW Telegraph. For a company selling so much IT hardware, that is so unacceptable. Especially a delicate piece of equipment like a 2.5″ hard-drive.
I have bought dozens of hard-drives over the years. I would not accept this shoddy treatment.

I would insist on returning goods and demanding your money back now. Inadequate packing is a good enough reason. You’ll never know if failure is caused.by journey. But you can expect after such treatment a failure well before MTBF. They shouldn’t argue with that.

You shouldn’t wait to find out if any damage done now as they have failed in providing reasonable care of product that requires special treatment.

Or if you want to risk them sending another drive I’d get them to send another drive to you asap.

David – it wont be years. There is a proposal with the relevant bodies in government right now. I’d speak with the byelaws officer at Communities and Local Government who can tell you more.

I think that young hooligans who cycle where innocent octagen-aryans are walking, deserve the full weight of right-minded thinking to come crashing down upon them. They must receive “Nottingham therapy” i.e. tazer several times them given a good thrashing.
